Save a Life: Learn CPR

The American Heart Association CPR courses are designed to prepare a wide variety of people who may need to perform CPR or help someone who is choking. Anyone may take these courses. Virginia Hospital Center currently offers two types of CPR Classes.

Family & Friends CPR

This is a 2-hour video based, facilitator-led course that will provide general information on CPR with limited practice time. This course does not offer certification.

Topics include:

  • Adult hands-only CPR
  • Child and infant CPR with breaths
  • Use of an AED
  • Assisting someone who is choking.

Heartsaver CPR

Instructors will provide individual feedback as students practice and master their skills. This is a 4 ½-hour video based, instructor-led course that will provide more in-depth information. Certification is available for those who wish to take the skills check at the end of the course.

Topics include:

  • Adult, child, and infant CPR
  • Use of an AED
  • Assisting someone who is choking.

All CPR classes involve close physical contact with other students.

Fees for these courses do not represent income to the American Heart Association.
