The collection includes books and journals in the fields of pre-clinical sciences, medical sciences, nursing and allied health, healthcare administration, and related subjects. All non-reference books may circulate to members of the Medical Staff and hospital staff for a period of one month.
Journals and reference books do not circulate, but a photocopier is available in the Medical Library to make free copies of library materials in compliance with Copyright Law of the United States (Title 17, U.S. Code).
Our collection is arranged according to the National Library of Medicine classification system. All library materials are entered in the online catalog and are searchable by keyword, author, title or subject.
The Medical Library subscribes to over 200 electronic and print journal titles in medicine, nursing and allied health. Print journals are retained for 15 years and are shelved in alphabetical order by title. Some current journal issues are displayed in the reading area. A journal list is located in the library and on the Intranet site.
The Library maintains an Intranet page. Under Library Quick Links, access is provided to:
- Ovid, a resource for searching MEDLINE, CINAHL (Nursing and Allied Health), Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, with links to full text journals.
- Online textbooks from R2 and Books@Ovid, including Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine.
- UpToDate, clinical, evidence-based information; onsite access only.
Contact the Medical Library for an ID/password for off-site access to Ovid.
