Arlington, VA: November 7, 2019 – Virginia Hospital Center (VHC), a community-based hospital providing medical services to the Washington, DC metropolitan area for 75 years, has achieved an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group for the 15th consecutive time. The Leapfrog Group is an independent national watchdog organization driven by employers and other purchasers of health care committed to improving health care quality and safety for consumers and purchasers. With the Hospital Safety Grades, Leapfrog assigns an A, B, C, D or F grade to hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections and other harms to patients in their care.
“We are humbled and thrilled to once again receive this prestigious recognition from the Leapfrog Group, said Jeffrey DiLisi, MD, MBA, Senior Vice President & Chief Medical Officer of Virginia Hospital Center. “Providing quality care and the highest level of patient safety are our top priorities at VHC, and we take great pride in consistently improving in these areas. The fact that the Leapfrog Group has awarded us an ‘A’ grade 15 times in a row speaks to the leadership and collaboration throughout the VHC, and to our enduring commitment to safety and quality care.”
Developed under the guidance of a national Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 28 national performance measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign the grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.
“‘A’ hospitals show us their leadership is protecting patients from preventable medical harm and error,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “It takes genuine commitment at every level – from clinicians to administrators to the board of directors – and we congratulate the teams who have worked so hard to earn this A.”
