Arlington, VA: January 22, 2019 – Virginia Hospital Center (VHC), a community-based hospital providing medical services to the Washington, DC metropolitan area for 75 years, recognizes the financial strains that may occur as a result of the federal government shutdown, as well as other economic hardships. In an effort to assist those currently in need, VHC has an established program called the Financial Assistance Policy to facilitate the provision of financial assistance to all qualified patients for eligible services.

“We at Virginia Hospital Center know that this is a very difficult time for people impacted by the shutdown,” said James B. Cole, President & CEO of Virginia Hospital Center. “Postponing or avoiding medical services can have a serious effect on one’s health, and we want to ensure that furloughed government workers know that VHC stands ready to serve their healthcare needs and provide assistance though the Financial Assistance Policy. VHC is proud of its not-for-profit mission to provide healthcare services to patients 24 hours a day 7 days a week regardless of their ability to pay, doing so in an equitable manner and treating them with dignity, respect, and compassion.”

Currently furloughed government workers and patients anticipating challenges in paying healthcare bills should contact our financial counseling department at 703.558.2492, for assistance to arrange a manageable payment plan. The Financial Assistance Policy and Plain Language Summary can be downloaded at www.virginiahospitalcenter.com/fap. Accompanying instructions will state the documents required for eligibility determination and guide patients in completion of the form.
