Arlington, VA (April 24, 2018)— Virginia Hospital Center earned another "A" in Patient Safety for the 12th consecutive grading period from The Leapfrog Group, an independent nonprofit hospital watchdog organization. This prestigious award signifies that Virginia Hospital Center continues to be among the country's top hospitals dedicated to rigorous patient safety standards and quality of care.
"We are honored to be recognized as one of the top hospitals in the country that is committed to providing top-notch care and safety for our patients," said James B. Cole, Virginia Hospital Center President & CEO. "To continue our unbroken record validates our efforts to ensure the highest quality care to our patients in the safest environment possible."
Virginia Hospital Center was one of 750 hospitals nationwide awarded an "A" for its efforts in protecting patients from harm and meeting the highest safety standards. Leapfrog assigns an A, B, C, D or F grade to hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, infections and other harm to patients in their care.
"This is the only national rating of how well hospitals protect patients from preventable harm, such as medical errors, infections and injuries," said Leah Binder, President and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. "Receiving an "A" Safety Grade means a hospital is among the best in the country for preventing these serious problems and putting their patients first, 24 hours a day."
Developed under the guidance of an Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to approximately 2,500 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is peer reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.
