Patch: Arlignton Hospital Begins Massive $250M Expansion: Report
Major changes are coming to Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, where a three-year, $250-million-dollar expansion project has begun, according to a report.
WTOP reports that digging and some demolition will begin in earnest at the hospital, which will remain open as facilities are expanded. The hospital worked out a land swap with Arlington County to get county-owned land north of the hospital campus known as the Edison Street site.
Buildings there will be demolished to make way for the expansion. The formal groundbreaking ceremony isn't until Oct. 22, but demolition is already underway.
The hospital has been around since the 1940s and the last major expansion was about 20 years ago, WTOP reports. The first phase will involve completing the parking garage by 2021, then an outpatient center the next year.
