Urogynecology & Pelvic Surgery

Millions of women of all ages experience the considerable physical and emotional effects of pelvic floor disorders such as urinary incontinence, vaginal, uterine or bladder prolapse and other common conditions. Virginia Hospital Center Physician Group – Urogynecology combines state-of-the-art technology with the invaluable urogynecologic training and surgical expertise of Medical Director Dr. Luis Sanz to successfully diagnose and treat those disorders. Even patients with complex conditions that have not responded to previous treatment have had their quality of life restored by Virginia Hospital Center Physician Group – Urogynecology's comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach.

From a urodynamics laboratory that relies on microcatheters to aid in diagnosis, to da Vinci® Robotic Surgical System-assisted surgeries, Virginia Hospital Center Physician Group – Urogynecology utilizes the latest technology as a matter of course — and minimally-invasive techniques whenever possible and appropriate.

Such new technology and techniques are amplified when implemented by Dr. Sanz. Former Vice Chairman and Director of Urogynecology & Vaginal Reconstructive Surgery at Georgetown University Hospital, Dr. Sanz is fellowship trained in pelvic surgery; experienced in robotics and the complete range of minimally-invasive surgical procedures; widely published - having authored more than 40 scientific papers and book chapters and edited four books of surgery, one which is now in its second edition - and a frequent lecturer. Dr. Sanz's considerable experience and unique skills combine to set the standard for the modern treatment of urogynecologic and pelvic floor disorders.

Virginia Hospital Center Physician Group – Urogynecology is also a key component of the Hospital's Center for Pelvic Floor Disorders, which offers comprehensive treatments for a broad range of digestive and pelvic floor disorders experienced by men and women. Dr. Sanz partner with specialists at Virginia Hospital Center Physician Group – Urology and Virginia Hospital Center Physician Group – Colorectal Surgery to develop comprehensive treatments for female incontinence, as well as other urological and pelvic floor disorders.
