Inpatient Rehabilitation for Spinal Cord Injury and Disorders

The Inpatient Rehabilitation Center (IRC) at Virginia Hospital Center focuses the individual needs of persons with traumatic and non-traumatic spinal disorders such as myelopathy, spinal cord compression, stenosis, and spinal tumors.

Through multidisciplinary nursing, medical and therapy care, the program helps patients develop the skills needed to perform daily activities, increase mobility and physical function, improve bladder management, improve swallowing and speech skills, improve respiratory wellness, utilize adaptive technology and address psychosocial issues that often accompany SCI.

When deemed necessary, community outings and home evaluations are scheduled to help assess the patient’s readiness to re-enter the community and discharge home.
