Cancer Survivorship: Life Beyond Treatment

Cindi Davis fought hard to beat breast cancer and then she found the help she needed to enjoy life again through Virginia Hospital Center’s Cancer Survivorship programs.

The Survivorship Program at Virginia Hospital Center recognizes patients’ needs and concerns following completion of treatment and as they transition from cancer patient to cancer survivor.

The Survivorship Program is located in the Cancer Resource Center and offers various classes, workshops and support groups that focus on:

  • Cancer surveillance and prevention of recurrence
  • Maintaining a healthy lifestyle and weight with good nutrition
  • Exercises and advice to manage effects of chemotherapy and cancer treatment
  • Advice and support on sexuality and intimacy concerns
  • Recognizing emotional aftermath and fears when treatment has been completed

Join CRC staff, our fellow survivors, and your new friends to drink tea, to color, or to discuss a good book. Come meet other caregivers, participate in a cooking class together, or knit a cozy scarf. We look forward to meeting you.

The Cancer Resource Center hosts an annual Survivorship Party to give patients and their families an evening of fun and a way to celebrate life and survival. Survivors, families and staff enjoy an evening dinner, dancing and fun activities away from the Hospital.

All programs, classes and workshops offered are free.

  • Are these patients referred by physicians? If so, are the sessions optional or required?
  • How often do you meet with patients? Do you work with them both on a short and long term basis?
  • How do you interact with health team members working with your patients?
