Pregnancy & Parenthood Support Groups

Develop friendships and learn from other moms when you attend the free pregnancy and parenthood support groups at Virginia Hospital Center.
All childbirth classes and support groups are being held virtually until further notice. Available Support Groups
Breastfeeding Support Group
If you are nursing or pumping, enjoy meeting with moms and an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant® (IBCLC®) for encouragement. You’ll receive support and understanding in a nonjudgmental atmosphere. You also can weigh your baby before or after class to check growth.
Do not worry if your baby cries during the session. Feel free to nurse your baby during the group.
You’re welcome to attend if your baby is getting care in the NICU. We can answer your questions and help you with your milk supply.

Breastfeeding Support for Working Moms
Attend this group with or without your baby. Learn tips from other moms and an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant on how to:
- Address childcare concerns
- Balance pumping, motherhood and work
- Collect and store breast milk
- Get employer support
- Plan for business travel

Parenting During COVID-19 Support Group (Moms4Moms)
You might be struggling with the ripple effects of social isolation, or missing the usual support from extended friends and family. You might have a new baby in the NICU and are feeling unsupported. We are here to help. Come join this group of moms for support on the journey through motherhood during COVID-19.

What to Expect When You’re Not the One Expecting
You might not be the one expecting, but as a partner you play a key role in supporting mom throughout pregnancy, delivery and back at home. This is a group for dads and partners to connect and learn the latest evidence based research for excellence in new baby care. You’ll connect with other partners on the challenges of parenting during COVID-19, discuss the challenges of working from home with baby, how to help with breastfeeding, and how to support mom if she is experiencing postpartum depression.

Postpartum Support Group
If you are feeling anxious, angry, irritable or sad after your baby is born, talk to other women who are experiencing a similar situation and get help if you have postpartum depression. The group is for moms only.

How to Attend
All support groups are free, and you do not need to register ahead of time. Find a support group you’d like to attend. Each support group takes place in our Women & Infant Health Center lobby classroom in Zone C.
When You Arrive
If you get a ride, get dropped off at the Women and Infant Health Center entrance. If you are driving, park in the Zone C green garage and follow the sidewalk to the entrance. You also may use the complimentary valet parking in the Zone A blue garage.
Leave your stroller near the information desk. Let us know if you need help lifting your car seat.
