Jiyeon E. Shin, MD, MS, FACOG, is board-certified by the American Board of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and joined the VHC Physician Group in 2020.
Dr. Shin grew up in Frederick, MD. She attended the University of Pennsylvania for her undergraduate education, where she received a BA in biochemistry and biology, and an MS in chemistry. For the following two years, she participated in molecular immunology research at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, a part of NIH.
She moved to Dallas, TX in 2000 to earn her medical degree at the University of Texas Southwestern School of Medicine. While in medical school, Dr. Shin was co-president of the Women’s Health Interest Group. She also participated in and organized a number of medical and surgical mission trips since. In 2004, Dr. Shin began her residency training in Obstetrics & Gynecology at the Baylor University Medical Center.
Dr. Shin returned to the greater Washington, DC area in 2008 to begin practicing in Fairfax, providing care to women from adolescent years to beyond menopause. She enjoys all aspects of obstetrics and gynecology, with special interest in patient education and preventative medicine. She likes to focus on providing well-rounded care to her patients with the aim of improving long-term health outcome.
Dr. Shin put away her hiking boots, travel luggage, cello, and tool box when her son, Ben, came into her life, but hopes to pick them back up when he can carry his own backpack. She is fluent in English and Korean. She is currently accepting new patients.
