Description

Fridays, 1:00 - 3:00pm.  8-week session.

Did you know that falls are NOT a normal part of aging, and most can be prevented? Nevertheless, the number one fear of older adults is falling. This fear can lead to limiting your activities, which can result in physical weakness, thereby making the risk of falling even greater.

An evidence-based healthy aging initiative developed by Boston University, Matter of Balance works to stop the
fear-of-falling cycle and increase activity among seniors. The program is designed to benefit older adults, who are concerned about falls, have fallen in the past, or who restrict their activities due to fear of falling.

Matter of Balance participants learn to view fear of falling as controllable, set realistic goals to increase activity, change their environment to reduce fall risk factors, and exercise to increase strength and balance.

Participants should be 55 years and older, able to walk, problem solve, and be interested in improving flexibility, strength and balance. This small group class includes eight, two-hour sessions led by trained facilitators
.

You will receive a confirmation e-mail prior to the beginning of class.
