Bio:

Dr. Crowther attended medical school in Australia , where she earned her MD equivalent (MBBS – Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery). In 1974, she went to London and continued in Obstetrics & Gynecology at Queen Charlotte’s Maternity Hospital and the Chelsea Hospital for Women. She also completed a PhD on the Immunology of Ovarian Cancer, and published numerous articles on her research.

In 1984, Dr Crowther was appointed Lecturer in Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of London and St. Bartholomew's Medical College , where the following year she began a Gynecological Oncology Fellowship. The hospital was a referral center for women with gynecological cancers from all over the south of England . During this time she was made a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists (FACOG).

In 1987, Dr. Crowther married, and because her husband was working at a University in Germany, she took a posting there with the British Army as a civilian Obstetrician & Gynecologist, looking after the soldiers’ wives. In 1990, Dr Crowther and her husband had a daughter. Dr Crowther suspended her practice of medicine some months later so that she could concentrate on raising their child.

Dr. Crowther’s husband, who is an American, wished to return to the US, and so she began another residency at Georgetown Hospital in 2001. Her interests include caring for women who have previously suffered a stillbirth or neonatal death, and she has published several articles on the subject. She is also interested in the management of women with abnormal Pap smears, and women with pelvic masses. She strongly believes in the important contribution made by midwives in caring for pregnant and laboring women.

As well as working for Arlington Women's Center, Dr Crowther teaches Georgetown OB/GYN residents in their Clinics at Virginia Hospital Center and at the Clarendon Public Health Clinic.

During her years in London , her voluntary work included caring for refugees and victims of torture in her capacity as Gynecologist to the Medical Foundation, a branch of Amnesty International. Currently, she volunteers at the Arlington Free Clinic and is a member of the Virginia Hospital Center Medical Brigade that provides free healthcare to the underserved population in Honduras.

Dr. Crowther is part of the Arlington Women's Center practice which offers the option for prenatal care and birth with their certified nurse midwife at Virginia Hospital Center.
