Virginia Hospital Center Recognized Again for Outstanding Patient Experience — Hospital Ranks Among Top 15% in United States

Arlington, VA (April 14, 2017) – For the fourth year in a row, Virginia Hospital Center was named a Top Hospital for Patient Experience by Healthgrades, a leading online resource for information about hospitals and physicians. The Healthgrades Outstanding Patient Experience Award™ recognizes hospitals that provide an overall outstanding patient experience. Virginia Hospital Center is one of just 443 hospitals nationwide to receive this award in 2017.

To evaluate patient experience performance, Healthgrades applies a scoring methodology to 10 patient experience measures, using data collected from the 32-question Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers Systems (HCAHPS) survey of patients. Only hospitals with overall patient experience scores in the top 15% are recognized.

Healthgrades analyzed HCAHPS surveys over an eight-year period to identify questions most closely associated with a top overall rating of 9 or 10 and a response of “Yes, I would recommend this hospital.” The response with the highest correlation to top ratings was “Nurses always communicate well.”
