The Medical Library is located on the first floor of the 1701 building, Women & Infant Health lobby, next to elevators.
Hours of Operation
The Library is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. A professional librarian staffs the Library during normal library hours. The Library is open to all physicians and staff associated with Virginia Hospital Center, as well as residents, medical and nursing students on rotation at the Hospital.
The librarian will assist patients & families in locating health information on request. The Library maintains three Internet kiosks in the Hospital for patients & families to communicate by email and to find reliable health & drug information.

The librarian provides assistance in locating information on medical or health-related topics. Services are available by telephone, email, fax, or in person.
The Librarian is available to perform literature searches in databases such as MEDLINE, CINAHL, and other resources.
Searches can be requested by email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or by calling the Librarian at 703.558.6524. Literature searches are completed within 24 hours of request, and the results are sent by fax, email or postal mail free of charge to members of the Medical Staff and hospital employees in support of patient care, teaching, and research.
The Library has arrangements with other libraries locally, regionally, and nationally, to obtain journal articles, books, and audiovisual materials which are not in our collection. Document delivery takes 2-5 days, depending on the lending library, but exceptions are made for urgent patient care. Request an article or book by phone, email or in person.
Contact the Medical Librarian to schedule inservice training on database searching, evidence-based medicine, or using electronic resources.
A photocopier is available in the Library to make free copies of Library materials at no charge, in compliance with Copyright Law of the United States (Title 17, U.S. Code).
The Medical Library maintains four computer workstations with Internet access, Microsoft Word and PowerPoint software, and hospital applications. The workstations are reserved for employee research and education.
