Virginia Hospital Center has highly trained surgical specialists that perform an array of surgical procedures.
Our General Surgery team treat diseases by performing the following procedures:
- Appendicitis: Laparoscopic Appendectomy
- Bile Duct Surgery
- Breast Diseases and Breast Cancer: Image-directed (ultrasound and/or mammogram) biopsy, lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy, mastectomy and breast reconstruction (in conjuction with Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery)
- Colon cancer and diverticulitis: laparoscopic colectomy and bowel surgery
- Cytoreductive Surgery
- Disorders of the spleen (ITP, TTP, spherocytosis): laparoscopic splenectomy
- Endocrine diseases: minimally invasive parathyroidectomy and thyroldectomy, and laparoscopic adrenalectomy
- Excessive BMI (Body Mass Index): Weight Loss Surgery - laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy
- Gallstones: laparoscopic cholecystectomy and laparoscopic common bile duct stone removal, ERCP and bile duct stone removal (In conjunction with Gastroenterology)
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and Nissen fundoplication, laparoscopic Heller myotomy
- Hernias: hiatus hernia, ventral/incisional hernia repair, laparoscopic hernia repair and other swallowing disorders (inconjunction with Gastroentrology)
- Liver tumors: cryosurgery of liver tumors, liver resection
- Melanoma: excision/resection
- Neuroendocrine Tumors
- Pancreatic cancer and pancreatitis: endoscopic and laparoscopic diagnosis and treatment, Whipple procedure (pancreato-duodenectomy)
- Sarcoma: excision/resection
- Spine Surgery: laparoscopic approaches to spine procedures (in conjunction with Neurosurgery and Orthopedic Surgery)
