Physical Therapy treats a variety of physical injuries and impairments of the central nervous system or musculoskeletal system. Physical therapists use exercises and activities to help patients regain strength, as well as improve balance and basic mobility. They also assist patients in the use of braces and prosthetic devices.
Physical Therapy also provides a variety of therapeutic treatments to reduce pain, increase comfort and improve function. A variety of modalities are available including electrical stimulation, iontophoresis, and manual therapy.
To best meet the needs of our patients, outpatient physical therapists at Virginia Hospital Center work on specialized teams. This allows our staff to focus their education, and provide the best care to the patients we serve. Additionally, this allows patients with multiple problems to be cared for by a team of specialist in different area of Physical Therapy, or in conjunction with Occupational Therapist and Speech & Language Pathologists.
