The neuroscience division at Virginia Hospital Center relies on advanced diagnostic and operative technologies for the treatment of a broad range of medical problems, including:

• Functional neuroscience—trigeminal neuralgia, hemifacial spasms, chronic pain, spasticity, Chiari Malformations, Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus
• Hyperhidrosis
• Neuro-Degenerative disorders—Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, dementia
• Neuro-Immunologic disorders—multiple sclerosis (MS) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)

• Neuro-Vascular disorders—the full range of endovascular (via groin) and open surgical options are offered for neurovascular disorders including stroke, intracranial bleeding, intracranial vessel blockage, cerebral and ruptured aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs), carotid cavernous fistulas (CCFs), subarachnoid hemorrhage, carotid artery blockage, carotid balloon angioplasty/stenting, Moya Moya Disease, brain bypass surgery for ischemia or flow replacement, and spinal angiography

Those patients whose conditions require surgery have both minimally-invasive and traditional, "open" neurosurgery options available to them at Virginia Hospital Center. Among the Hospital's neurosurgical experts is the Director of Neurovascular Surgery, Sid Chandela, MD, who is trained in both endovascular and open procedures and is the only endovascular neurosurgeon in Northern Virginia—and one of just 90 practicing in the United States.
