Park in the BLUE parking garage. Take garage elevator to the LOBBY, and then the Hospital's elevators to Suite 288 on the 2nd Floor. Remember to bring your photo ID and insurance card with you to your office appointment with Dr. Garrett.

Pre-Op Screening

The day before surgery, patients register for surgery and undergo testing to include chest X-ray, EKG, blood work and urinalysis. Patients also meet with a member of the anesthesia department and a Physician Assistant to review pre-op instructions.


Arriving at the Surgery Center

Located on the 2nd floor of 1625 N. George Mason Drive. Sign-in on the clip board in the reception area. Shortly thereafter, a nurse will escort you back to your all-private preoperative room.

All-Private Patient Rooms

Your surgical preparation begins. You will change into a gown and a nurse will confirm your medical history and surgical procedure. After this, your family, friend or loved one will be invited back to join you.

Surgical Preperation with CV Team

Before surgery, you will meet with one of six anesthesiologists that are dedicated to the cardiac, vascular and thoracic surgical team. You will then be transported to the operating room for surgery.


Dedicated Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR)

CV Operating Room

Virginia Hospital Center has two specialty operating rooms for cardiac, vascular and thoracic surgery. A dedicated surgical team including an OR First Assistant and Head Nurse who have been with the program for more than 20 years provide highly specialized care to achieve the best patient outcomes.


After Surgery

CV Stepdown Room

Following surgery, the surgeon will meet your loved ones in the ICU/Surgery waiting area on the 2nd floor to provide updates about your surgery and status. Depending on your surgery, you will either be brought to an all-private patient room in the Cardiovascular ICU or a Rapid Recovery room before transferring to the Cardiovascular Stepdown Unit for the remainder of your post-operative care.


Cardiovascular Nurse Clinicians & Cardiovascular Physician Assistant

CVT Team

A dedicated team of Cardiovascular Clinicians (Master's degree-prepared Nurse Practitioner) provides continuous on-site patient care under the direction of the surgeon throughout the entire Hospital stay. Approximately two weeks after surgery, you will return to the office for a post-operative evaluation with a Physician Assistant.
