For over 30 years, Bill and Suzie Buck have been philanthropic leaders and supporters of Virginia Hospital Center. Bill served on the Hospital’s Board of Directors from 1990 to 1995 and Suzie’s family established the Ben and Betty Cooper Nursing Education Fund which was one of the first endowment funds of the Friends of Nursing program. Both Bill and Suzie have been active members of the Galen Society since it was founded in the 1980s. And now, Bill and Suzie’s son, Billy Buck and his wife, Heather, are third generation members of the Galen Society. Bill is President of Buck & Associates, Inc., a real estate brokerage, development and property management firm in Arlington since 1976. Buck & Associates has developed office buildings, retail spaces, industrial parks and 10 housing communities throughout the area.
Why do you and your family support Virginia Hospital Center?
We know firsthand how important it is to have a world-class, technologically-advanced hospital right in our own back yard. Generations of our family have supported Virginia Hospital Center and we want to ensure that our community will remain strong and healthy for generations to come.
What would you say to others in our community about supporting the Hospital?
Many people do not realize how important it is to have quality medical care until they get sick. As part of the Galen Society, we believe in helping to grow and build Virginia Hospital Center programs. With the Hospital’s recent national awards—Top 100 Hospital and Top 50 Cardiovascular Hospital in the nation—we can’t help but feel a sense of pride to be part of the Hospital family.
What is your hope for healthcare in our community for the future?
As Arlington residents, our hope is for everyone in our community to have access to top doctors and cutting-edge technology. We know that through our support and the philanthropy of so many caring Arlington residents, we can ensure a bright sustainable future for Virginia Hospital Center.
