Marjorie Sands Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
Cares for Fragile Newborns

Longtime Hospital supporter Frank Sands, Sr. and his children Frank Sands, Jr., Katharine Sands Gunsalus and Laura Sands Crenshaw have made a major gift to support a significant upgrade of Virginia Hospital Center’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). In recognition of their outstanding generosity, the NICU renamed as the Marjorie Sands Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, in loving tribute to Marjorie as a wife and mother. Read more

Heart Station Upgrade

The Virginia Hospital Center Heart Station, recently renamed in memory of Dr. Francis J. McGrath, Jr., provides cardiac stress testing, advanced heart imaging studies, a full array of echocardiogram imaging, and Holter monitors to track heart function for up to 24 hours. Upgrades to the heart station were made possible by gifts from Virginia Hospital Center Auxiliary, Virginia Heart, and memorial donations to the Francis J. McGrath, Jr. MD memorial fund. Russell & Joan Hitt

Our longtime supporters Russell and Joan Hitt helped to fund the expansion of the Department of Radiation Oncology at Virginia Hospital Center
Russell Hitt is Chairman of HITT Contracting, Inc., which was founded in Arlington, Virginia, by his parents in 1937 and remains a family-owned company. Russell oversees all aspects of corporate and financial operations company-wide and is actively involved in projects of all size and scale. In addition, Russell has served on numerous advisory and volunteer boards during his tenure, and is currently active with Capital Hospice, the building and construction departments of Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech, and the Fishburne Military School.
