| Bio: | Othon Wiltz attended Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons (New York, NY) and received his Medical Degree in 1985. Prior to graduation, he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.
He completed his residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (Boston, MA) during which time he also did a two-year, National Institutes of Health-sponsored research fellowship in cancer biology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (Boston, MA). Dr. Wiltz's additional training included a Colon and Rectal Fellowship at the University of Minnesota (Minneapolis, MN).
From 1993 to 1999, he performed colorectal surgery in southern Florida as part of a renowned group practice that established the performance of laparoscopic colorectal surgery in the Miami area. Dr. Wiltz was in joint practice with his father in Puerto Rico from 2000 until August 2006, when he established the colorectal surgery program at Virginia Hospital Center (Arlington, VA).
As head of Washington Colorectal Surgery at Virginia Hospital Center, Dr. Wiltz offers both surgical and nonsurgical treatment options for a variety of common-but underreported-disorders of the colon, rectum and lower digestive tract including fecal incontinence, constipation, hemorrhoids, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Crohn's Disease and colitis. Dr. Wiltz also treats colon and rectal cancers and rectal prolapse, and is one of very few physicians in the Washington, DC area to perform laparoscopic colectomies (minimally-invasive removal of the colon).
A Fellow of both the American Society of Colon & Rectal Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Wiltz is one of only approximately 1,300 Board-certified colorectal surgeons in the United States. He is a former clinical instructor in surgery at Harvard Medical School, is widely published and a frequent lecturer. Dr. Wiltz takes great satisfaction in helping his patients find relief from the physical, social and financial costs of their sensitive health conditions, and delivers compassionate and personalized care to each one.
Congratulations to Dr. Othon Witz for being named in Northern Virginia Magazine’s 2013 TOP DOCTORS! |
