Dale Matthews, MD practices, and teaches general internal medicine with an emphasis on individualized, patient-centered, and spiritually-sensitive treatment. He is a graduate of Princeton University (Romance Languages, cum laude) and Duke University School of Medicine. He completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Connecticut and the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar Program at Yale University, a prestigious fellowship training program in clinical epidemiology and research. He has taught general internal medicine at Yale University, University of Connecticut, and Georgetown University.

Dr. Matthews has received many awards including the George Morris Piersol Teaching and Research Scholarship from the American College of Physicians and a Humility Theology Award from the John Templeton Foundation. He was named as a Washington, DC-Baltimore-Northern Virginia Super Doctor in 2011 and 2012 and received the Patients’ Choice Award annually from 2008-2011. He is the author of “The Faith Factor: Proof of the Healing Power of Prayer” (Viking/Penguin, 1998), additional books and teaching videotapes, and over 60 scientific articles on doctor-patient communication, spirituality and health, and related topics. He has appeared on numerous national television programs, including the Oprah Winfrey Show, Larry King Live, and Good Morning America.

He is married to Demetra Matthews and has two adult children: Karen Matthews Goodman and Louis Matthews. He enjoys golf, baseball, piano, ballroom dancing, travel, photography, and studying and teaching the Bible in church and community settings.
