| Bio: | Hatem El Halabi, MD, FACS is the Director of Surgical Oncology at Virginia Hospital Center. His primary clinical and research interests are melanoma, malignancies of the gastrointestinal tract and endocrine surgery (thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal surgery). Dr. El Halabi has expertise in the treatment of patients with advanced cancer that will require complex surgical procedures, including liver and pancreas resection, and takes a minimally-invasive approach whenever appropriate. He has special training and skills in utilizing Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC), an advanced technique for treating late-stage, complex cancers of the abdominal region.
Board-certified in general surgery, Dr. El Halabi obtained his MD from The American University of Beirut (Lebanon), where he received the Alpha Omega Alpha Award for academic achievement and compassionate patient care. Following medical school, Dr. El Halabi completed comprehensive training in Surgical Oncology at Mercy Health Services (Baltimore) and his General Surgery training at The Medical College of Virginia (Richmond).
A member of many national and international medical societies, Dr. El Halabi has several publications in peer review journals. He presented at a number of national meetings and was honored with the Gold Medal Award by the Southeastern Surgical Congress for his research and presentation. |
