| Bio: | Dr. Sid Chandela is an endovascular neurosurgeon who serves as Director of Neurovascular Surgery at Virginia Hospital Center. A fellowship-trained, minimally-invasive neurosurgeon, Dr. Chandela's unique expertise in cerebrovascular neurosurgery forms the foundation of the Hospital's neurovascular program. In addition, his practice involves the full scope of general neurosurgery, including procedures for brain tumors and minimally-invasive spine surgery.
Dr. Chandela is one of only 90 "hybrid-trained" neurosurgeons nationwide (one of only 90 neurosurgeons in the United States trained in both endovascular and traditional open neurosurgical procedures) and is the only one in Northern Virginia to offer microsurgical and endovascular treatment options for cerebrovascular disease. Besides general neurosurgery, his expertise includes microsurgical and endovascular treatment of cerebral aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, brain bypass for ischemia, treatment of carotid stenosis, tumor embolization, spinal angiography, and interventional revascularization of stroke and intracranial stenosis.
After graduating with honors from medical school at Penn State University, Dr. Chandela completed his neurosurgery residency at Albert Einstein/Montefiore Medical Center in New York City. Subsequently he completed a prestigious fellowship in endovascular neurosurgery at Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience, the Philadelphia region's only dedicated hospital for neuroscience. Dr. Chandela has won various research awards and authored numerous articles in peer reviewed journals. |
