Vice President & Chief Information Officer
Michael Mistretta joined Virginia Hospital Center as Vice President and Chief Information Officer in 2015. His current responsibilities include providing strategy and leadership for all information technology for the health system. With nearly 30 years’ experience in the healthcare industry, Mr. Mistretta has performed software development, consulting, and data center management services for a variety of customers on both the provider and payer sides of healthcare. Mr. Mistretta has been invited to sit in an advisory capacity by multiple healthcare companies and has spoken extensively on the impact of the current HITECH act and ARRA legislation.
Mr. Mistretta has extensive experience in the implementation of Electronic Health Records (EHRs) having worked with most major vendors on the market today. His interests and experience include creating solutions to increase productivity, improve quality, and reduce expenses through automation and system integration. He has worked extensively with multiple vendors in the healthcare space to develop solutions integrating various aspects of clinical care including biomedical device integration, point-of-care devices, and incorporating discrete data feeds for analytical decision making. He has guided health systems to become National Showcase accounts for healthcare technology and model organization in the automated capture clinical quality measures; including being recognized as "Most Wired" by Hospital and Health Networks magazine and HeathImaging and IT's "Top 25 Most Connected Facilities".
Mr. Mistretta is a certified Healthcare Chief Information Officer by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) and Certified Professional in Health Information Management by the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS). He attended the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY and the University of Maryland majoring in Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering. He also holds an MBA degree from Ashland University located in Central Ohio and is a graduate of Electronic Data Systems Engineering Development Program.
