A cancer diagnosis can be a frightening and stressful time for both the patient and the family. The more you know about the diagnosis, treatment, side effects and coping strategies, the better you can deal with the disease. Following are some resources to help you.


American Cancer Society (ACS)

Cancer Care Inc.

www.cancercare.org Information on support and educational programs for cancer patients and family members. 

Cancer Liaison Program

www.fda.gov/oashi/cancer/cancer.html A program in the U. S. Food and Drug Administration that brings the patient advocate's perspective into the review of new drugs to treat cancer, and provides information about cancer clinical trials and/or cancer drug development.

Cancer News on the Net

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)

www.cdc.gov/cancer Information on CDC's Division of Cancer Prevention and Control, and its work with national cancer organizations, state health agencies, and other key groups to develop, implement and promote effective strategies for preventing and controlling cancer. National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship

www.canceradvocacy.org Resources for patient education including the Cancer Survival Toolbox.

National Library of Medicine (NLM)

www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed Free search engine of the holdings of NLM. Search can produce abstracts.

The National Lymphedema Network (NLN)

www.lymphnet.org Education and guidance for lymphedema patients, health care professional and the general public on the prevention and management of primary and secondary lymphedema.

NOAH: New York Online Access to Health

www.noah-health.org Broad selection of cancer information available in both English and Spanish.

Office of Minority Health Resource Center

www.omhrc.gov Information from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on subjects that affect the health of minority populations, including cancer.

OncoLink

www.oncolink.upenn.edu Comprehensive, well organized source of cancer information for patients and health professionals, offered through the University of Pennsylvania.

The Anticancer Fund
